Our presentation from the Dallas Construction Expo

January 25th, 2008

We provided a two hour presentation on High Impact Low Cost Marketing at the Dallas Construction Expo on January 23rd and 24th. We had a blast talking to great folks, the kind of people that build things and make a positive contribution to our nation. Many people that know me don’t know that I got my start in the construction industry in two sectors, structured cabling and underground construction. Being at the expo was really kind of like reconnecting with my roots.

We will be producing a DVD of the entire presentation but I thought I would share the last 7 minutes of it here. Stay tuned we will let you know when the full two hours is available. This show went so well that our PR Director, Debby Decker was able to get us invited to present at quite a few more upcoming Expos including a shows in Phoenix, Atlanta, New York, Austin and possibly others.

So if you are involved in the construction, housing or real estate world drop by the main Construction Expo Website for Details about upcoming dates and shows.

Tune Up and Tune In On Leadership

January 16th, 2008

We’re really excited at Franklin-Spirko because we’ve been invited to participate in the upcoming Construction Expo — the largest trade show for the building and construction industry. It’s going to be held January 23 and 24, 2008 at the Dallas Convention Center.

Not only is Jack Spirko – our president and founder – going to be a keynote speaker, but our team of Internet marketing and public relations experts is going to lead the marketing seminars “Low-Cost, Hard-Hitting Marketing” scheduled for both days of the Expo from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.

Jack is one of the two keynotes, and he’s going to address “It’s A Whole New Year: Tune Up and Tune In On Leadership” on Wednesday, January 23 at 1:00 pm.

And there’s NO cost associated with any of this! You can attend the Construction Expo for FREE (there’s no registration fee)! And once you’re in there, the seminars and keynotes are FREE too!

If you want to learn more about Web 2.0 and how to develop a profitable marketing program, then get to the Expo early and join us at 9:00 am for the Marketing seminar. Then take some time, walk around and look at the exhibits. But stay for Jack’s keynote at 1:00 pm on Wednesday where you’ll learn the “20 Commandments of Leadership”. You’ll also learn why leadership is more than a title…how to share a vision in a way that motivates employees, co-workers and others….and the key to defining characteristics that separate people from peers.

How many times are you offered a FREE marketing seminar, and leadership keynote, at a tradeshow? Not many. So come take advantage of it. We’ll see you at the Expo!

Web 2.0 Presentation at the Frisco Chamber of Commerce

December 14th, 2007

We had a great time at the Frisco Texas Chamber of Commerce when we presented at their “Get on Track” networking event on Thursday the 14th. Below is a video of my presentation on Web 2.0 that was very well received. We are already looking forward to doing another speaking engagement with them, and in fact Scott Higsby of C-People (one of our clients) will be speaking there next week on trends on the recruiting industry and the shortage of talent in todays market.

Let me just say I have been involved with many Chambers over the years and I see something really special in the Frisco Chamber. Frisco is a mix of young and exciting entrepreneurs and experienced and solid professionals. Both of these groups are excited and creative in building their businesses. There is a true spirit of cooperation among the members and a real desire to make the town better.

We talked a number of people about coming on the Dallas Business Broadcast in the coming weeks and have some really interesting guests lined up for that. One we are really excited about is former NFL wide Reciever Jake Reed who will appear with his wife Vinita to discuss why they choose Frisco to start up the Frisco Thunder (a new area football team) and the larger community mission of their team.If you are anywhere near Frisco Texas I recommend highly that you get in touch with their Chamber about joining and getting involved.

4th Annual III Forks Golf Classic Raises Funds for Good Cause

September 24th, 2007

Last Monday, September 17, was a beautiful day. Not just because it was in the high 80’s with clear springlike temperatures, but because it was time for the 4th Annual III Forks Golf Classic benefiting Angel Flight South Central!

Executives, business owners and other community members from across the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex either sponsored the event, or had one of the golf teams that played on the 72 Par Queens course at the Gleneagles Country Club in Plano, Texas. Although prizes were handed out to the winning teams (by the way, the winning team was 20 under par!) at the post-tournament luncheon, it wasn’t about winning the trophies and other prizes that attracted the players to the Classic. It was to help raise funds for one of the community’s hardest-working non-profit organizations that has given so unselfishly in terms of money and time to people with medical and other needs.

Angel Flight South Central flies people with medical, or other needs, to hospitals and other facilities within Texas, surrounding states, and need be, across the country. Their services are free, so they rely completely on volunteer piolts and donations from individuals, foundations. clubs and corporations. It’s slogan says it all: “In the air because se care!” Angel Flight South Central’s goal is to remove the transportation burden from patients so they can get the specialized medical treatment they need that’s not available to them locally. The organization wants the patients to not worry about “how to get there”, and instead focus on getting well.

It was their hard work that caught the eye of Chris Vogeli, III Forks’ executive chef and proprietor, and other community members. They decided to organize and host the Annual III Forks Golf Classic (named after its main sponsor III Forks which is one of Dallas’ premier restaurants known for it’s ultimate Texas French cuisine). The funds from the past Classics not only have allowed Angel Flight South Central to provide a record number of medical flights for patients with all types of medical needs, but its volunteer group of pilots also were able to help during Hurricane Katrina, flying people out of New Orleans and other devestated areas to different towns and medical facilities.

So many organizations like Angel Flight South Central need hosts and sponsors for charitable events that they hold annually like golf tournaments, casino night dinners, bicycle rides, and more. Sure, being involved in such an event gains community exposure through advertisements, PSAs and other marketing efforts promoting the event; and companies can network with prospective clients or partners at the event. But the main purpose of any event of this type is to help raise funds for some non-profit group that is helping out people in its local community, across the state or nationwide. It’s about giving back to the community.

Even I got caught up watching the players who were enjoying their game at last week’s Classic, and for a short time forgot why we were all there…until I saw a small private plane that probably had just taken off from the local airport fly overhead in the cloudless skies. Then I remembered. We were all there to help Angel Flight South Central raise funds so they could continue doing the humanitarian job of helping Mom, or Grandpa, or even a small baby get the medical treatments they needed to live, or flying them out of a dangerous situation.

That’s what it’s all about.

Dallas Business Journal Charity Bass Tournament

September 20th, 2007

The Dallas Business Journal is running a Charity Bass Fishing Tournament on September 28th on Lake Ray Hubbard. The event will be run out of the Bass Pro Shops location in Garland and will be fun to attend even if you don’t compete. Like most outdoorsmen I could personally spend at least half a day just hanging out in Bass Pro Shops so even though I am not planning to compete I will probally stop by and enjoy the event a bit.

For those competing there is money to be won, total purse is $8,250.00 and breaks down as follows

  • First – $6,000.00
  • Second – $1,500.00
  • Third – $750.00

You don’t even need boat or a partner to compete as their are options that will provide you with either one or both. More information is available at the Dallas Business Journal Website,
